Generix Solochain’s Rémy Karmouche on the Future of WMS and Overcoming Key Challenges

At ProMat 2025, Rémy Karmouche, Director of Product Management and R&D at Generix North America, shared his insights on the evolving world of warehouse management systems (WMS) and supply chain logistics with LIDD’s own Angie Sabourin, Partner – Warehouse Technology.

The Essential Role of ERP in WMS Integration

When discussing practical steps toward the autonomous, data-driven warehouse of the future, Rémy emphasized the importance of visibility. He recommended implementing a modular, easy-to-deploy WMS solution like Generix’s SOLOCHAIN Now, which can be up and running in just 16 weeks, providing immediate insights into warehouse operations.

Rémy also highlighted the critical role of ERP systems, noting that a WMS is best integrated within a well-established ERP ecosystem. He suggested that without a solid ERP foundation, WMS implementation would face significant hurdles.

Sound Bite:

“I would strongly suggest going for a packaged modular, quick and easy implementation. That’s going to give you visibility and understanding on what type of autonomous, data-driven implementation you’d like to do,” Rémy says.

Tackling Labor Shortages with User-Friendly WMS Solutions

On addressing labor shortages, Rémy pointed to SOLOCHAIN’s user-friendly interface and integrated training modules as a solution. SOLOCHAIN’s automatic generation of training documentation further reduces the time spent on upskilling new or temporary workers.

Generix’s Vision for a Smarter, More Efficient Supply Chain

If given a “magic wand” to improve WMS implementation, Rémy would focus on change management, stressing that clear communication and process management are key to successful adoption. A gradual, step-by-step approach, he explained, would ease the transition and ensure smoother, more successful system integrations.

Rémy insights underscored the growing importance of adaptive, data-driven solutions in the supply chain landscape—solutions that are fast, flexible, and intuitive enough to handle the demands of today’s workforce and tomorrow’s technological advancements.

[01:00:21.08] Good morning, Rémy.

[01:00:22.12] How are you? I’m good. Thank you, Angie.

[01:00:24.09] Thank you for joining us for a quick interview at PROMAT. It’s been a long time we’re working together, 16 For 20 years. Can you introduce yourself? What role do you have at Generix?

[01:00:33.22] Sure. My name is Rémy Carmouche. I am Director of Product Management and Research and Development for SoloChain WMS for Generix North America.

[01:00:44.13] Nice. Thank you. I’ll have a couple of questions regarding WMS supply chain logistics. First of all, warehouse of the future is described as autonomous and data-driven. What’s one of the practical steps as a company can take today to move closer to get to that vision?

[01:00:59.21] I like the fact that you mentioned closer. I would say it’s very hard to fix or improve something you don’t understand or you don’t have visibility on. I would strongly suggest going for a packaged modular, quick implementation, quick and easy implementation. That’s going to give you visibility and understanding on what type of autonomous, data-driven implementation you’d like to do. Generic’s response to that is our Solo Chain Now package that can be implemented in as in the last 16 weeks. I would return back a question to you. Yeah, go ahead. Angie, so we talk a lot about implementation about a WMS and being quick and easy. We understand that once you implement a WMS, you are integrating something into an ecosystem. Correct. For you, what would be the key mentions of implementing a WMS within your ecosystem with ERPs, TMS, and YMS evolving?

[01:01:55.22] I would say the first software that you need to have, or at least being the driver of all that ecosystem, will be to have the ERP. If you don’t have an ERP, it will be very hard to implement a WMS with it. Then when you have the team family of ERP and WMS, adding a WMS, YMS to complement your operation will be very useful, but if you don’t have your ERP, it will be very hard to do your WMS implementation.

[01:02:24.10] Obviously, ERP revolves around financial aspects, so I would totally understand that it’s the main aspect of the system.

[01:02:30.13] Labor shortage continue to be a major challenge. How do you envision that with the SoloChain generics WMS?

[01:02:38.20] Sure. Solochain, I would say, is one of the most user-friendly system of its kind. So understanding that it’s a system that you can quickly learn and adopt is our answer to labor shortage. Solochain has embited training modules, documentation, and whether you are training someone on a new task or training a temporary or new employee, you can make sure that they will learn and understand quickly. And bonus point for SoloChain, SoloChain automatically generates most of his training document as you use it, so you don’t have to spend hours updating and documenting training modules.

[01:03:19.20] You can extract your data from your team working with it.

[01:03:23.02] Correct.

[01:03:23.18] Thank you. And last question, if you would have a magic wand to to change something in implementation and approach with the WMS, what would you do?

[01:03:36.05] I totally love this question. I would say it’s hard to choose, but I would say focus on change management. Whenever you are implementing in WMS or any other system, you need to focus on change management. Whether it’s reviewing the current processes and what will change, change management is going to be the key factor for success for most of the companies. Not only it’s going to make sure that not only you’re going to have your employees be on board, and it’s going to be a key factor for success, but also you’re also going to point out that you’re not going to have these moments during go-live or a few months down the line.

[01:04:18.22] It follows the same idea from your first question where go with baby step first, a smallest implementation to launch the software, and then if you want to do enhancement, you’ll have your team, they will know better and it will be easier to implement.

[01:04:32.23] Totally agree with that.

[01:04:34.01] Thank you very much, Rémy. Have a nice day. Have a nice show.

[01:04:36.14] Of course. Thank you for your time, Angie.
