Montreal, the largest city in the province of Quebec, is a vibrant metropolis located in southwestern Quebec on Île de Montreal. It sits at the confluence of the St. Lawrence and Ottawa rivers. Founded in 1642 as Ville-Marie, it was later named after Mount Royal, the triple-peaked hill around which the early settlement was built. As Canada’s second-largest city, Montreal is a major industrial, commercial, and financial hub, as well as a center of francophone culture in North America. It enjoys international acclaim and is one of the world’s great cities. Fun fact: Montreal is the second-largest French-speaking city globally, after Paris. See you in Montreal!
